Haridwar is considered as one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimage places in India. River Ganges enters the North Indian plains at Haridwar. Haridwar is also referred to as "The Gateway to God". Hindu pilgrims and devotees gather at Haridwar to offer prayers on auspicious occasions. The water of River Ganga is considered very holy by the Hindu devotees, And they even take some back with them.

It is believed that Haridwar has had the Presence of The Gods: Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh in it. Devotees believe that they attain salvation by taking a holy dip in the River Ganga. Haridwar is also a venue for the Kumbh Mela. According to mythology drops of Elixir fell into the Brahmkund of Har-Ki-Pauri, therefore a dip here on this particular day is considered as a form of blessing.

Haridwar is not only a centre of all the holy happenings but also serves as a good tourist attraction site as well.
